HAVANA, Cuba, Sept 17 (acn) On Thursday afternoon, Jose Ramon Cabañas handed over to President Barack Obama the Credentials accrediting him as ambassador of the Republic of Cuba to the United States.
The web site of the Cuban diplomatic mission in Washington reported that the official ceremony took place in the Oval Office of the White House, on a day in which the U.S. head of state received sixteen new ambassadors.
During the meeting Obama and Cabañas talked about the state of bilateral relations.
Cuba and the United States reestablished diplomatic relations on July 20, a day in which the Cuban embassy was reopened in the northern nation.
The accreditation of the Cuban ambassador to the United States is another step in the process towards the normalization of relations between the two countries, specified the Cuban legation via the Internet.
