HAVANA, Cuba, Aug 24 (acn) I feel proud to pay homage to a giant, an example of dignity, said Cuban intellectual Miguel Barnet during a tribute-paying ceremony to Chile´s former president Salvador Allende in the capital Santiago.
Barnet, who heads the Cuban Association of Writers and Artists, parliament deputy and writer, laid a wreath at the General Cemetery in the Chilean capital to Salvador Allende, who was assassinated during a bloody coup in 1973 orchestrated by dictator Augusto Pinochet.
A member of the Cuban Council of State and ethnologist, Barnet met with the mayor of the Recoleta Daniel Community and he said he was highly moved by visiting the pantheon that treasures the remains of such an extraordinary man.
For Cuba his death was the loss of a children said Barnet, and on behalf of his artists ´organization and of all Cubans he noted that he felt so proud of paying tribute to such a giant.
