HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 31 (acn) An international conference called Cuban Futures will be held October in London on the reestablishment of US-Cuba relations and prospects for normalization of links between the two countries with the participation of speakers from Cuba, the U.K., and North America.
Cuba Futures is organized by the Cuba Solidarity Campaign and South East Region TUC International Committee and supported by the Ken Gill Memorial Trust and the Nick Burdon and Denis Blockley Memorial Trust Fund.
The announcement by the organizers says that "the historic opening of Cuban and US embassies in Washington and Havana on Monday 20 July 2015 marks the first step on a long road to normalisation of relations. But what does this mean for Cuba and Cubans living both on and outside the island? How can the two countries have normal relations while the US maintains its illegal blockade and continues to occupy Guantánamo Bay?"
The conference will take place in the afternoon of Saturday, October 3 this year at the Council Chamber, TUC Congress House, Great Russell Street, London, WC1B 3LS.
Keynote speakers expected to participate include Mariela Castro, Director of the Cuban National Centre for Sex Education and MP in Cuba's National Assembly; Alejandro Castro, Doctor of Political Science and social researcher and a regular contributor to the Cuban press; Dr. Carlos Alzugaray, former Cuban diplomat, internationally recognized political analyst and university lecturer; Teresita Vicente, Cuban ambassador to Britain.
Also on the list of speakers is Brian Wilson, Britain´s former Energy and Labor MP and current chairman of Havana Energy, a British entity that set up the first joint venture in Cuba to build power stations fueled with biomass from sugar plantations, and other British experts in different fields.
