HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 25 (ACN) Foreign ministers from Latin America, the Caribbean and Europe are meeting in Santiago de Chile prior to the First Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States and the European Union, which will take place January 26 and 27.
Cuban foreign minster Bruno Rodriguez arrived Thursday in Santiago de Chile to participate at the forum, which gathers the foreign ministers of the two blocs.
The ministerial meeting will discuss and prepare the documents that will be submitted to the heads of different delegations from 60 states participating at the summit.
The enhancement of bilateral understanding and the setting up of a strategic alliance for sustainable development of the nations are the main objectives of the forum.
Since its creation in 1999, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Latin American, Caribbean and European coordination platform aimed at achieving a strategic association.
Previous summits held in Madrid, in 2002; Guadalajara, 2004; Vienna, 2006; Lima, 2008 and again in Madrid in 2010, were antecedents for the creation of the strategic alliance.
The Community of Latin American and Caribbean States was set up December 2011 by 33 regional nations gathered in Caracas, Venezuela.
