HAVANA, Cuba, Jul 22 (acn) The 45th Contingent of the Jose Marti European Brigade, composed of 160 representatives from 17 nations of that part of the world, reaffirmed on Tuesday its opposition to the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba for over half a century now.
At the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp, in the municipality of Caimito, Artemisa province, members of this broad movement of friendship, who will conclude on Wednesday their 16 day-visit, also expressed support for the Cuban struggle for the return of the territory of the illegal U.S. Naval Base of Guantanamo.
In the presence of Kenia Serrano, president of the Cuban Institute of Friendship with the Peoples (ICAP), and other executives of this institution, Lurkia Constantino, a member of the Greek Network of Solidarity, stressed the decision of the Contingent of opposing the hegemonic attempts to deny Cuba its right to independence, sovereignty and self-determination.
On behalf of the brigade members from different associations of solidarity with Cuba, Constantino praised the ongoing process of updating of the national economic model, and said they're proud to accompany the Caribbean nation in its struggle.
Serrano pointed out the significance of the visit of this group, which takes place in a very important context for Cuba, of changes in its policy of foreign relations and profound socio-economic transformations towards a greater development of the country.
The ICAP president insisted on the importance of the unity of peoples, as a way to defend the right of nations to decide their own destinies, and called on activists to maintain mobilization, with the strengthening of social awareness in mind.
