Spain interested in strengthening business relations with Cuba

HAVANA, Cuba, July 8 (acn) The Spanish Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism José Manuel Soria said his country is willing to consolidate the good business relations it has with Cuba, and to spread them to several economic fields.

Soria is on a working visit to Cuba, accompanied by Undersecretary of State Jaime García-Legaz and a large delegation of Spanish entrepreneurs.

He attended a business forum in Havana and said his trip aims at supporting Spanish companies that are willing to enter the Cuban market, which is ¨full of opportunities¨

During a ¨short, but intense and productive¨ exchange with Cuban authorities, Soria said they had identified new ways of increasing bilateral relations, and that in the next future both countries will sign memorandums of understanding on this regard.

Spain and Cuba will develop projects in several key sectors, as telecommunications and energy, where Spain has not had participation as active as in tourism, he said.

On his part, García-Legaz announced the creation of new bank instruments to boost larger Spanish investments in Cuba. He mentioned a public financing line opened by Cofides, the Spanish company for financing development, with an initial fund of 40 million Euros till 2017, which could be increased.

Also, the Banco de España will grant credits to companies willing to invest in Cuba.
