HAVANA, Cuba, Jun 11 (acn) The High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Frederica Mogherini, received Cuban First Vice-president Miguel Diaz-Canel in Brussels on Wednesday.
Diaz-Canel heads the island's delegation to the Summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and the EU, which brings together in the Belgian capital representatives of 61 countries and international organizations.
We hope that there is a constructive dialogue in the Summit that gives fresh impetus to relations between the CELAC and the European Union, the Cuban First Vice-president told reporters.
The meeting with Mogherini occurred at a time when the EU and Havana progress in the negotiations started in 2014 for an Agreement of Political Dialogue and Cooperation.
Brussels and Havana have already had three rounds of talks and the fourth one is scheduled for June 15 and 16 in Brussels, after the summit between the EU and the CELAC.
Mogherini paid a visit to Cuba in March, when she was received by President Raul Castro. "Together we have much to build to solidify our relationship," said on that occasion the also vice-president of the European Commission.
The Cuban First Vice-president met on Tuesday with the prime ministers of Slovenia, Miro Cerar, and Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel.
