Challenge for Latin America in Telecommunications Highlighted

Challenge for Latin America in Telecommunications HighlightedHAVANA, Cuba, Jun 7 (acn) Sergio Scaravino, head of the Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in Latin America, expects that the conference on information and communication technologies results in more and better cooperation between all countries.

This was stated by the United Nations executive in an interview with ACN regarding the International Conference "New Scenarios of Political Communication in the Digital Realm," that began on Fruday at Havana's Convention Center since Friday.
Our goal is that the benefit of telecommunications is within the reach of as many people on the planet as possible, said the regional representative of the ITU.
In this regard he stressed that the challenge for Latin America is very big, mainly for developing countries, because there is backwardness in technology and a good use of communication systems is not made.
We try developing countries to have the possibility to generate more knowledge, because it's there, they have it, but they lack the technological tools to take them to as many people as possible, said the expert.
The presence of the ITU in Havana is aimed at creating harmony in terms of issues discussed, seek agreement and get to share experiences and the best practices and enable the organization to provide more support for networks of telecommunication services in the area.
Scaravino took advantage of the opportunity of the conversation with the press to highlight the good organization on the part of Cuba for the International Conference, which is part of the island's contribution to the monitoring process on the 10th anniversary of the World Summit of Information Society.
He stressed that in the technical area, the ITU seeks to support countries that participate in meetings like these and bring communications within the reach of their peoples.
The International Telecommunication Union is a specialized agency of the United Nations dedicated to connecting people and countries and to try to improve international communications by providing technological support for those who require it.
The official praised the role of organizations and governments in joint work to achieve greater levels of cyber-security and respect for international regulations on telecommunications.
