HAVANA, Cuba, May 6 (acn) The Cuban people decided to update their economic model and France is willing to support the island in this historic moment, but it is the Cubans who will write their own history, said French State Secretary for Foreign Trade, Tourism and the Diaspora, Matthias Fekl.
Felk told PL news agency that his statement is one of the ideas for the visit by President Francois Holland to Cuba on May 11.
He announced a forum on economic issues and bilateral exchange during the visit by the French President, as well as the inauguration of new facilities for the French Alliance in a centrally located building in Havana.
The trip by the French President to Cuba is based on very close and long-standing relations between the two countries and this will be the first official visit by a French head of state to the island since the 1959 victory of the Cuban Revolution, the official said.
As to economic relations, Fekl said that France has always supported Cuba in harsh moments, particularly during the 1990´s economic crisis known here as Special Period, after the fall of the Soviet Union and the Socialist Bloc.
The French official said that they are very interested in Cuban economic areas like tourism and construction, though all cooperation avenues are open in terms of infrastructure, transportation, energy, finances and he recalled the signing of an accord last March in the area of agricultural research.
As to the Special Economic Zone at the western Mariel harbor Fekl said that it is a very impressing project.
Cuba is willing to be part of regional and international exchange and this is a symbol of opening and complete integration in regional scenarios, said the official.
