HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 24 (acn) The Prime Minister (PM) of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Anatolievich Medvedev, received the Vice-president of Council of Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, Ricardo Cabrisas Ruiz, on Friday afternoon, in the culmination of a successful visit that had as main objective to hold a Special Session of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission for commercial, economic, scientific and technical cooperation.
In the cordial and friendly meeting, the two parties ratified the excellent state of bilateral relations and reviewed the implementation of agreements reached between presidents Raul Castro and Vladimir Putin during the visit that the latter to Havana in July, 2014.
Medvedev and Cabrisas expressed their special satisfaction with the results achieved in the Special Session of the Intergovernmental Commission held in the city of Kazan, Republic of Tatarstan, on April 22. Both of them referred to the progress made in cooperation in areas such as electric power, oil, education, metallurgy, air, railroad and automobile transportation and banking and financial relations, and mentioned the ten documents signed within the context of the meeting.
Vice President Cabrisas conveyed to Medvedev the personal greetings of Raul Castro, President of the councils of State and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, and also asked him to give them to President Vladimir Putin.
For his part, the Russian PM sent special greetings to "his comrades Fidel and Raul."
The meeting was also attended, for Cuba, by the island's ambassador to Moscow, Emilio Lozada; First Deputy Minister of Energy and Mines, Raul Garcia; and Deputy Ministers Amelia Morales and Ileana Nuñez, of the Ministry of Planning and the Economy and the Ministry of Foreign Trade, respectively. Russia was also represented by the Deputy PM and co-chairman of the Russian party of the Intergovernmental Commission, Dmitry Rogozin; First Deputy Minister of Economic Development, Alexei Likhachev; Deputy Ministers of Foreign Affairs and Finance, Alexei Meshkov and Sergei Storchak respectively; and the Director for Latin America of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Alexander Schetinin.
During his visit to Moscow, the Cuban leader met for over five hours with the Deputy Prime Minister and co-chairman of the Russian party of the Intergovernmental Commission, Dmitry Rogozin, an occasion in which they discussed not only current issues of cooperation but also planned the next steps to deepen economic, trade and financial ties with regard to Program for the Economic and Social Development of Cuba for 2015-2020 period and the possible effective participation of Russia in it. Special emphasis was given to cooperation in science and technology, to Cuban exports, particularly in the field of biotechnology and the pharmaceutical industry, and to Cuba's relations with regions of the Russian Federation.
Cabrisas also held meetings with the President of the Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Defense, Finance and Industry and Trade, as well as with the President and the Prime Minister of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minijanov and Ildar Khalikov, respectively. He also participated in the presentation of the Portfolio of Opportunities for Foreign Investment at the Russian-Cuban Business Forum in the city of Kazan.
