HAVANA, Cuba, January 13 (ACN) The UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group on Cuba defended today the sovereignty, security, and right to self-determination of the Caribbean nation and rejected threats from US authorities regarding a possible military intervention.
In a statement released on Tuesday, British parliamentarians recalled that this stance by the current US administration adds to decades of hostility from that country toward Cuba, including the ongoing economic blockade, which, they emphasized, has been repeatedly condemned by the international community.
Any attack against Cuba would be a violation of international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and would undermine peace and stability in the region, the statement, shared on social media by the Cuban Embassy to London, stressed.
The Parliamentary Group expressed its solidarity with the Cuban people in the face of this aggression and urged the UK government to oppose any US military action against the island.
They also noted the long history of positive relations between Cuba and the United Kingdom, and highlighted the support provided by Cuba to several countries during health emergencies such as the Covid-19 pandemic and the Ebola crisis.
