Cuba praises fruitful debate against blockade at the United Nations

HAVANA, Cuba, October 28 (ACN) Speaking from the UN headquarters, Cuba's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Anayansi Rodríguez Camejo assessed as categorical and substantive the first day of debates at the United Nations General Assembly on the resolution demanding an end to the U.S. blockade, where clear examples were presented of its negative impact on the island.

She remarked that the 28 speeches in support of Cuba, delivered by regional groups such as the Caribbean Community (CARICOM), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the African Group, and the Non-Aligned Movement, demonstrated the antagonistic position of the United States within the international community and the isolation of its hostile Cuba policy.

The official referred specifically to the unfortunate intervention of the United States representative at the meeting, which she described as hurtful, disrespectful, rude, arrogant, slanderous, and fallacious, to the point that the Cuban Foreign Minister invoked the rules of procedure to raise a point of order in defense of the dignity of the General Assembly and reminded the speaker that the United Nations is not the U.S. House of Representatives.

Ms. Rodríguez reiterated that the Cuban government is fully convinced that the overwhelming majority of the UN Member States will endorse the island’s position despite the enormous diplomatic efforts and intimidating and deceptive pressures exerted by the U.S. on several countries.

"It will also be a triumph for reason, justice, and truth," she stressed, emphasizing that the blockade remains the main obstacle to the country's development and economic recovery.

In closing, she noted that, along with the demand for an end to the blockade and Cuba's removal from the unilateral list of state sponsors of terrorism, the speeches repeatedly recognized Cuba as a peaceful and supportive nation that offers the world cooperation and does not deserve to suffer such an unjust policy.
