Cuba expresses condolences to Afghan people after earthquake

HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 2 (ACN) Bruno Rodriguez Parrilla, Cuban foreign minister, expressed his regret on social media for the loss of human life and material damage caused by the recent earthquake in Afghanistan.

He also expressed Cuba's deepest condolences to the Afghan people, especially to the families and loved ones of the victims.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake in Afghanistan had a 6.0-magnitude on the Richter scale, with its epicenter located 27 kilometers east of Nangarhar province and a depth of just 8 kilometers, which intensified its destructive impact.

The event occurred at 11:47 p.m. local time (7:17 p.m. GMT), and was followed by at least two aftershocks of magnitude 5.2.

The hardest-hit provinces were Kunar, Nangarhar, Nuristan, and Laghman, where severe damage to infrastructure and homes was reported.

Initially, some 800 people have died and more than 1,300 have been injured, as well as extensive property damage, although the figures could increase as the aftermath of the natural phenomenon becomes clearer.
