Havana, Aug 15 (ACN) Istanbul’s governor Davut Gul paid a visit to Cuban general consul in that Turkish city Raúl Ernesto Madrigal to address the strengthening of bilateral cooperation with Cuba.
According to an article on the webpage of the Cuban Foreign Ministry during the meeting Gul and Madrigal addressed issues related to the consular mission and the Cuban community in Türkiye as well as Cuban nationals on transit in that nation.
Madrigal appreciated the support offered by local authorities and stressed the importance to enhance communication channels to ensure efficient, safe and respectful consular assistance. Gul affirmed the commitment of Turkish authorities to diplomatic cooperation and valued as positive the historic bonds of friendship between the two nations.
According to the Cuban Foreign Ministry, bilateral diplomatic relations between Cuba and Türkiye were officially established in 1952. Such links have evolved favoring bilateral cooperation in the political, economic and cultural sectors. Türkiye opened its embassy in Havana in 1979; considered the first Turkish diplomatic mission in the Caribbean area.
