India and Cuba Share Historic Relations

HAVANA, Cuba, Mar 24 (acn) India and Cuba share traditionally warm and friendly relations, historic links marked by the coincidence of interests as to global issues, reads a communiqué issued by India´s Foreing Ministry, on the occasion of the visit to that Asian country by Cuba´s first vice-president Miguel Diaz-Canel.

Diaz-Canel began a two-day official visit to India on Monday on the invitation of his counterpart Hamid Ansari and during commemorations for the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Havana and New Delhi.

The communiqué explains that the Cuban government official was received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, by Ansari, by foreign minister Sushma Swaraj and by President Pranab Mukherjee.

The talks between Diaz-Canel and the Indian government authorities focused on bilateral, regional and international issues.

This is the latest visit in a series of high-level contacts between India and Cuba in the last few years, which has helped to strengthen relations between the two nations, the communiqué notes.
