UN Says Capacities to Manage Israel-Palestine Conflict Gone to Limit

Havana, Aug 24 (ACN) The UN special coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Tor Wennesland, said that the capacities to manage the crisis in the region and the aggravation of Gaza’s humanitarian situation have reached limit.

Speaking at the UN Security Council, Wennesland referred to a “combination of factors leading to an explosive situation,” including human tragedy in Gaza and the serious risk of a regional escalation in the face of lack of dialog.

He called for efforts to relieve human suffering in the region and for a ceasefire and the release of the hostages in Gaza. He also called for diplomatic action to achieve a de-escalation and political dialog to end the conflict and find a solution for the two states.

The Israeli offensive unleashed after the Hamas attack on October 7 last year has claimed over 40 thousand lives and has displaced more than one million Palestinians.lc
