Cuban Cardinal Applauds Talks to Reestablish Cuba-U.S.A. Bonds

Cuban Cardinal Applauds Talks to Reestablish Cuba-U.S.A. BondsHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 9 (acn) Cuban Cardinal and Archbishop of Havana Jaime Ortega applauded on Monday the beginning of the process of reestablishment of relations between his country and the United States, while giving a speech at the Vatican.

Ortega, who carried out a liturgy at the San Juan de Letran Basilica in Rome, asserted that the world is living a terrible crisis and expressed his hope that the message of thaw between Washington and Havana is spread to the entire planet, the Prensa Latina news agency reported.

"The wall of distrust separating the United States and Cuba seemed to be indestructible. History stayed frozen. But nothing is impossible," commented Ortega in his address to the faithful.

Thanks to the support of Pope Francis, "the end of a time that seemed was never going to end" took place in December 17, he said, referring to the negotiations of the Supreme Pontiff for the restarting of the Cuba-U.S.A. contacts.

Patience, talks and perseverance brought new times to the two countries, times of encounter and talks, considered Ortega.

Dialogue is the bearer of good for all. My heart is full of hope for the future of the Cuban people and I'm happy to share this joy, he concluded.
