HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 10 (acn) The Cuba Interests Section in Washington still doesn't have a bank in the United States through which make the transaction related to its consular activities, as informed in a press release published by Granma newspaper today.
Cuban News Agency now reproduces the press release:
The Interests Section of Cuba in Washington wishes to inform users of its consular office that despite the efforts made since February 2014, it has not yet been able to identify a US or foreign banking institution based in the United States or in a third country to carry out banking operations necessary to ensure normal operation and to provide full consular services as a result of the worsening financial measures, ensuing from the blockade policy imposed by the Government of the United States, and the unjustified and unsustainable designation of Cuba as a "state sponsor of international terrorism."
The Interests Section, while continuing to work on finding a solution that would normalize its consular work, has decided to extend once again its services until March 31, 2015, to renew passports and extend its validity to those Cubans who have reservations for travel to Cuba. These procedures will continue be performed through travel agencies with ties to the Consular Office and directly at its headquarters in Washington, DC
The Interests Section reiterates that requests motivated by humanitarian reasons continue to receive prompt treatment and according to Cuban immigration regulations, Cuban citizens must carry a valid passport to enter the country.
