HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (acn) For the first time in more than 50 years the political situation between the United States and Cuba favors the resumption of bilateral relations, according to The New York Times editorial page editor Andrews Rosenthal.
In an interview aired by BBC, Rosenthal addressed the recent publication by his newspaper of five editorials dedicated to Cuba and the over-50-year US economic, commercial and financial blockade of Cuba, usually and referred to as the trade embargo.
Rosenthal said that Andrew Rosenthal, the New York Times' editorial page editor, tells the BBC that the five editorials have been in line with the newspaper's longstanding position on Cuba and the embargo and that these articles aim at encouraging debates on the issue since there is growing number of voices in the U.S. calling for an improvement of relations with Havana.
Ongoing discussions in Washington focus on President Barack Obama as having the chance to address important changes towards Cuba over the next few months, as the next Summit of the Americas will be held April2015 in Panama, according to editor said.
The Times is also trying to influence US legislators and the media to keep addressing US policy on Cuba.
