Latin American Diabetes Association Praises Cuban ProgramHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 13 (acn) The president of the Latin American Diabetes Association (ALAD), Doctor Felix Manuel Escaño stressed the successful Cuban program for the prevention and control of diabetes by describing it as an example to follow in the region.

The executive is attending a Latin American Forum on Diabetes on the prevention methods and management of the disease, with eight to 12percent prevalence in this part of the world.

The doctor stressed the need for actions to encourage regional health sectors and governments to apply corrective measures in the benefit of the diabetic population, which is expected to increase by 55 percent over the next 15 years in Latin America.

Diabetes is currently affecting 382 million persons in the world; and the figure could reach 500 million by 2025.

The Latin American Diabetes Association groups 19 countries, including Cuba.
