Samantha Power Praises Cuba's Contribution to Fight Ebola

Samantha Power Praises Cuba’s Contribution to Fight EbolaHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 1st (acn) U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, praised on Friday the contribution made by Cuba to the struggle against Ebola in West Africa and said that her country is very grateful.

"Although I didn't find them personally, I have to praise Cuba for sending 265 physicians," pointed out Power in a meeting organized in New York by the British news agency Reuters.

"We're working next to each other. There's no joint effort (between the United States and Cuba), partly because the United Nations leads and controls (the campaign), but we're very grateful," she added.

The ambassador, who has just returned from a visit to West Africa, highlighted the speed with which Havana reacted to the Ebola outbreak and recalled that the Cuban government will send another 200 physicians to Africa. "This is a great shortage and a great need," said Power on the arrival of that medical staff to Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone, the three countries most affected by the disease.
