First Cuban Health Experts Arrive in Liberia to Fight EbolaHAVANA, Cuba, Oct 8 (acn) The first group of Cuban health workers that will participate in the fight against the Ebola fever virus in Liberia has arrived in the country as part of the initial brigade sent by Havana to fight the virus in Western Africa, informed the Liberian government on Tuesday.

All in all, it is expected that some 50 health experts arrive in Liberia over the next few days to join this initial team, although this figure could vary depending on the needs detected in the country, pointed out the Liberian government in a communique, the Cubadebate Web site reported.

Liberian Foreign Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan also wanted to thank the Cuban government for this "solid friendship and solidarity with people in need." He expressed his confidence in that the disease will be eradicated "soon" in Liberia, the country most affected by the Ebola outbreak that appeared in Western Africa in March, which has so far caused close to 3,500 deaths in several countries of the region.

As explained by the Cuban physician heading this group, Juan Carlos Dupuy, this medical team that has just landed in Liberia and that will work together with the country's authorities, is part of the international response to control the epidemics.

Recently, the Cuban government announced the sending of 461 doctors and physicians to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea Conakry, the three countries where more cases of the disease have been registered.
