Cuban athletes depart for Rio ParalympicsHAVANA, Cuba, Aug 30 (acn) A 24-strong group of Cuban athletes will depart today for Brazil to participate in the Rio de Janeiro Paralympic Games that will start on September 7.

The Cuban delegation is led by the banner-bearer three-time world champion Omara Durand, who also holds the world records in the 100, 200 an d400 meters race for deep visually impaired (T12)

Durand also won two Paralympic gold medals in London 2012, and is accompanied by five-time Olympic champion Yunidis Castillo (2 in Beijing 2008, and 3 in London)

Discus thrower Leonardo Díaz (F54-56) will go for his third title in these events, and sprinter Leinier Savon will try to win his firsts in 100 and 200 meters (T-12)
