HAVANA, Cuba, May 11 (acn) Cuba qualified to the coming Futsal World Cup to be held in September in the Colombian city of Cali, along Costa Rica, Guatemala and Panama.
In the qualifying event in Costa Rica, the Cuban team drew its first match to one with Curacao, and was trounced by the hosts 0-6, but won its ticket after defeating Canada in the last game 7-4.
After a day´s break, Cuba will play the semi-finals against Panama, while Costa Rica will face Guatemala. Winners will go for the gold on Saturday, while losers will play for the bronze medal.
This will be the fifth time in history that the Cuban team plays in a Futsal World Cup, after its participation in Spain 1996, Guatemala 2000, Taiwan 2004 and Brazil 2008.
