Three Cuban players sign with Canadian baseball team

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 29 (acn) Catcher Frank Camilo Morejón and pitchers Ian Rendon and Noelvis Entenza formalized their contracts with the Kitchener Panthers, team belonging to the Interstate Independent League of Canada.

As result of the efforts of the Cuban Baseball Federation for the insertion of players in foreign competitions, the agreement involved months of talks and is considered historic for the franchise of the Canadian province of Ontario, reported the sports publication Jit on its online edition.

I'm mentally prepared to do things well to support the interest of the club to win the pennant, and remain physically fit for fighting for the crown in the 56th National Series with Industriales when returning, Frank Camilo Morejon, star catcher of the side from Cuban capital in the national tournament, told the press.

The right-hander Noelvis Entenza described as excellent the opportunity to play in the CanAm League, while lefty Ian Rendon said the stay there will be helpful for the three of them in their efforts to support Industriales in the upcoming Cuban Baseball Championship.

We hope they to help us winning the championship, said Mike Boehmer, Kitchener Panthers board member and responsible of negotiations with Higinio Velez, president of the Cuban Baseball Federation, and Heriberto Suárez, National Commissioner of this sport.

The Cuban baseball players Frank Camilo Morejon, Ian Rendon and Noelvis Entenza will travel today for Canada to join the squad that will hold 36 matches before the playoffs, which are usually played on the first days of September.
