Cuban badminton player debuts in US tournamentHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 5 (acn) Cuban badminton player Osleni Guerrero debuts today in the Manhattan Beach International Series tournament, in Los Angeles, USA, event that grants 2 500 points for the world ranking to the winner.

Guerrero, top seed of the tourney, will debut against Surinamese Soren Opti, and if winning will face in the next round the winner of the match between Malaysian Jinn Ye Tan, and Italian Indra Bagus, as reflected in the official website of the contest.

The Caribbean player, runner-up of Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games, who appears 57th in the world list, must seize this opportunity to continue adding points in his aspirations to reach the ticket to the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, to be held from August 5 to 21.

This competition on US soil, which runs until February 7, is also attended by good quality athletes as the local Howard Shu, second seed, Martin Giuffre (Canada), Bjorn Seguin (USA) and Rosario Maddaloni (Italy).

In addition, Osleni could rival Mexican Lino Munoz and Job Castillo, opponents he has faced repeatedly.

Guerrero, in his Olympic qualifying route -it ends next May-, should participate in the 2nd Peru International Series tournament, from March 3 to 6; then in another contest in Jamaica, and from 22 to 27 of the same month he will defend his crown of the Giraldilla of Havana tourney.

In 2015, he also won the gold medal at the Chile International event, held in late May; and the Suriname tournament, last November.
