Cuban GM Bruzon still undefeated in Gibraltar OpenHAVANA, Cuba, Jan 29 (acn) Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon will try today to remain unbeaten at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival 2016, where he starts the fourth round ranked 22nd with 2.5 points.

Bruzon will face German Florian Handke, who also has 2.5 units but appears 21st by having better tiebrake among more than 300 contestants.

Yesterday, Cuba's second best player drew with Indian Kidambi Sundararajan in 34 moves of a Queen's Gambit.

American star Hikaru Nakamura, defender of the crown, surprisingly drew yesterday with the little known Russian Grigoriy Oparian and also totals 2.5 units.

So far, 11 men have had perfect performance of three wins and appear on top of the standings led by French Maxime Vachier-Lagrave, Russian Dmitry Jakovenko and Hungarian Richard Rapport, all with more than 2 700 Elo points.

The other Cuban competing in this event, Rodney Perez, beat American James Torjan and climbed to seat 51st with two units and will face today Spanish Pablo Almagro.
