HAVANA, Cuba, Jan 26 (acn) Cuba and Curacao, undoubtedly the best two teams so far, will compete today for the title of the Caribbean qualifying tournament, which hosts the Kid Chocolate multipurpose room in Havana.
Both teams won their respective groups unbeaten. In Group B, Cuba showed positive balance of 14 goals for and only one against, defeating San Martin (5-0), Guadeloupe (4-0) and Jamaica (5-1).
Meanwhile, Curacao led Poole A, with 13 goals scored and four against after beating Guyana (5-2), Antigua and Barbuda (5-0) and Trinidad and Tobago (3-2).
Thus, both sides got the direct ticket to the CONCACAF finals, which will be settled in Costa Rica, next May, tourney that will grant three berths for the World Cup, scheduled for Cali, Colombia, next September.
The bronze medal match will also be played today between Trinidad and Tobago and Guadeloupe. The winner will go to a playoff against a team from Central America in search of the last passport to the CONCACAF tournament.
Cuban Ricardo Castillo and Trinitarian Jerwyn Baltasar, both with five goals, led the list of scorers in the preliminary stage.
They were escorted by the also Cuban Jhonnet Martinez and Ashar Bernardus and Everon Espacia, both from Curacao, plus Mickael Burlet and Samuel Lantidor, from Guadalupe
