Cuba finishes Judo Grand Slam in Tokyo with two silvers

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 7 (acn) Cuban judokas achieved two silver medals in the final day of the Tokyo Grand Slam, in Japan, through Idalis Ortiz and Asley González, in a contest won by the hosts, with 11 gold, five silver and seven bronze medals.

According to the website of the tournament, Ortiz (+78 kg) and Gonzalez (90) lost 1-0 and 2-1 respectively against Japanese Nami Inamori and Mashu Baker, in that order.
Previously, Ortiz had reached three wins, al by ippon, against Venezuelan Emileidy Lopez, Japan's Wakaba Tomita and French Marine Erb, in that order.
Meanwhile, Gonzalez achieved four wins by ippon against Spanish Nikoloz Sherazadishvii, Portuguese Celio Dias, Japanese Yuya Yoshida and Dutch Noel Van T End respectively.
The other three Cubans competing yesterday -José Armenteros (100), Alex Garcia (+100) and Yalennis Castillo (78) could not win medals.
Armenteros finished seventh , with wins over Indonesian Adwin Sumantri and Brazilian Rafael Buzacaroni, but was then beaten by Azeri Elmar Gasimov and Georgian Beka Gviniashvili, in that order.
Meanwhile, García and Castillo both won one bout and lost another.
Cuba finished sixth, with two silver medals and a seventh seat in a standings led by Japan (11-5-7), followed by Georgia (1-0-1), Germany ( 1-0-0) and USA ( 1-0-0).
The Japanese event -last tournament of the tour made by Cubans through Asia-, brought together 476 judokas from 91 nations, and granted points for the world ranking, which awards 22 and 14 direct seats for men and women, respectively, to the 2016 Summer Olympics .
