Cuban GM Bruzon climbs 15 positions in world ranking

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 1 (acn) Cuban GM Lazaro Bruzon climbed 15 positions in the global chess ranking which was updated today and it was the most significant for Cuba in this area.

In the list, to be effective for the rest of the year, the Cuban appears 76th with 2 666 Elo units, far ahead of the seat 91st he held a month ago when he totaled 2 657 points.
Although such progress has not allowed him to return to his best position, it is a good season finale where he still has to attend the Mexican tourney of Carlos Torre, as confirmed by the national commission.
The Cuban ranking is commanded by Leinier Dominguez, who appears 24th in the world with 2 732 points.
There were not many movements in the rest of the Cuban "top-ten", as Yuneisky Quesada (2 626) is still third despite losing 16 points, and Isam Ortiz (2 601) is currently fourth when adding 21 units.
Yuri Gonzalez and Camilo Gomez rank fifth and sixth, both with 2 553, escorted by Juan Carlos Obregon (2 539), Carlos Hevia (2 534) and Jose Angel Guerra (2 533).
Omar Almeida (2 527) completes the top ten besieged by Yasser Quesada, who won 21 units and ends the year happy by reaching his third and final GM norm.
Nothing changed in the top five of world ranking despite Norwegian Magnus Carlsen lost 16 points, and now totals 2 834.
He is f ollowed by Bulgarian Veselin Topalov ( 2803), Indian Viswanathan Anand (2796), Russian Vladimir Kramnik (2793) and American Hikaru Nakamura ( 2793).
