CIEGO DE AVILA, Cuba, Nov 25 (acn) The Ciego de Avila baseball team, Cuban reigning national champion, will face today the squad from the University of Pennsylvania, USA, at Latinoamericano stadium in Havana.
This match between the "Tigers" and the American university is part of a program of academic and sports exchanges made by the students who are visiting the island.
Leonardo Rodríguez Sánchez, Provincial Director of Sports in Ciego de Avila, told ACN that Vladimir Garcia and Yennier Cano will be the starter and closer of the local side.
According to CubaDebate official site, the right-hander Sal Biasi will be on the mound for the American squad, who are a team that competes in Division One of the NCAA, the upper echelon of college sport in USA.
The visitors lost 2-1 yesterday to Industriales in this same ballpark and on Friday and Saturday they will face Mayabeque and Matanzas at Nelson Fernandez and Victoria de Giron Stadiums, respectively.
This American university visiting Cuba also competes in other specialties such as soccer, basketball, ice hockey and golf.
