Cuban Larduet makes history in Glasgow

Cuban Larduet makes history in GlasgowHAVANA, Cuba, Nov 2 (acn) Gymnastics athlete Manrique Larduet recorded the best performance ever by a Cuban in a World championship when he won two medals in Glasgow, Scotland.

After surprising the world with his silver medal in the All Around, Larduet, 19, finished third in the high bars event with 15.600 points, trailing Japanese Kohei Uchimura(15.833) and American Danell Leyva (15.700).
This performance gave the Cuban a direct qualification for the coming Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games in 2016.
Larduet became the first Cuban to win two medals at this level, since the only ones to achieve one in the past were Erick López and Charles León.
This is also the first time Cuba wins two medals in a World Championship. The only time before was in Gante 2001, when Lopez won silver in parallel bars and Leon bronze in vault.
These two medals placed Cuba in the eighth place in a competition won by the United States (5-2-3), followed by Japan (4-0-1) and Russia (3-1-0)
