HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 27 (acn) Cuba will try today to increase its harvest of four gold and one silver medals in the continuation of the IPC Athletics World Championships, based in Doha, Qatar, until October 31st.
Yunidis Castillo, five times Paralympic champion, will try to reach her first title of the contest by taking part in the final of the women’s T47 400m (upper limbs affected).
On Sunday, the Cuban delegation achieved its second gold medal through the sprinter Omara Durand, who won the women’s T12 200m event, with world record of 23.03 seconds .
In the case of Durand, she still has options to win another gold medal when participating in he T12 100m event, which will be run next Wednesday, according to the online edition of the sports publication JIT.
Due to the excellent performance and level shown by Durand, it is expected her to cover the distance in less than 11.65 seconds, which is also the world record set by herself last August in the 5th Parapan American Games in Toronto, Canada.
Leinier Savon, in the men’s T12 100 meters, also won the crown for Cuba in this universal contest.
Furthermore, in the opening day of the event, Leonardo Diaz won the title in the men´s F56 discus throw (wheelchair), with record of 45.10 m.
This orb tournament is attended by 839 men and 443 women, including six Cubans, from 97 countries, and grants tickets for the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro 2016.
