HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 15 (acn) The Cuban badminton player Osleni Guerrero debuts today in the International Tournament of Chile, event that will run until October 18 and he is the defending champion.
Guerrero , who won this event last May, appears seventh among seeded players and will clash in his debut with American Sattawat Pongnairat, a known opponent he has faced several times.
Guerrero, 64th in the world ranking and runner-up of Guadalajara 2011 Pan American Games, is the second best positioned for the Americas, only behind Guatemalan Kevin Cordon (51).
Cordon will be the third seed of the tournament, which will be attended by other quality players like Israeli Misha Zilberman, first seed, and Spanish Pablo Abián (2).
Miguel Diaz, president of the Cuban Badminton Federation, told ACN that Guerrero will also attend events in the United States and Mexico with the goal of accumulating units to the list of the world, which Olympic qualifying process closes on May 1st next year.
So far this season, Osleni won the crown in the sixteenth edition of the tournament Giraldilla, which hosted this capital last March; besides the aforementioned title in Chile.
