HAVANA, Cuba, Oct 2 (acn) Cuba defeated Trinidad and Tobago and will play for the fifth seat in the NORCECA women's volleyball continental championship hosted by the Bicentenario Auditorium in Morelia, Mexico, where they faced locals on Friday.
With no chance of getting one of the four tickets the event grants, Cuba won 3-0 (25-14, 25-14 and 25-14) with highlight for Heidy Rodriguez, top scorer of the match with 14 points, and Regla Gracia (7), while Krystle Esdelle (9) and Sined Jark (7) excelled for the Trinitarians.
Meanwhile, Mexico beat Costa Rica 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-13), a team that played against Trinidad and Tobago on Friday in search of the seventh position.
In semifinals, the Dominican Republic defeated Canada 3-1 and the United States beat Puerto Rico 3-0 .
Thus, the U.S.A., defending champion, and Dominicans, advanced to the finals, while Canada and Puerto Rico will fight for the bronze medal.
The first four places in the tournament qualify for the Final Four, and the winning team will get the ticket for the 2016 Summer Olympics, while those finishing second and third will play in repechage events.
