HAVANA, Cuba, Sep 14 (acn) Cuba defeated the host Puerto Rico on the final day of the first preliminary round of the Women's U-20 World Volleyball Championship, in a match held in the city of Guarabo.
The Cuban girls won 3-2 (25-14, 25-20, 20-25, 11-25 , 15-7) a match of group A which also includes Russia and Bulgaria .
With this performance, they accumulated two points, one win and two defeats, the latter against Russia (9-3-0) and Bulgaria (6-2-1), which achieved the top two seats of the poole, while the local squad (1-0-3) ranked fourth, according to the website of the tournament.
Cuba´s best players in this match were Dalila Palma Rodriguez and Sonia Beatriz Romero, while Ivania Ortiz and Gabriela Ramos stood out for Puerto Rico.
In yesterday's other matches Turkey beat 3-1 Czech Republic and the Dominican Republic defeated Brazil 3-0, in Group D, Serbia won over China 3-2 and Chinese Taipei beat 3-1 Egypt and Italy defeated Japan 3-1, in Poole C.
