TORONTO, Canada, Aug 11 (acn) A world record by Omara Durand, among other outstanding performances in athletics, and silver medals by Raciel Gonzalez and Lorenzo Perez completed Cuba's third day of action in these 5th Parapan Am Games.
Despite the rainy afternoon and evening, Durand set a new world record in the women´s 100m T12 event of 11.86 seconds, improving her own mark (11.99) dating from Guadalajara '14, in the semifinals yesterday at the stadium in York.
Today the double Paralympic champion in London 2012 will be in one of the 17 finals with Cuban participation, so the number of medals of the Caribbean nation should rise to improve the seventh seat achieved so far in the standings with four gold, six silver and three bronze medals.
It also excelled the rookie sprinter Leinier Savon, who scored the fastest time among 10 competitors (10.95 seconds) in the men's 100m T12 event, so we expect more from him in the final agreed for today at 17:45.
The swimmer Perez finished second in the men's 50m S6 freestyle with time of 29.55 seconds, his personal best, improving thus the mark of 29.98 that earned him the silver medal in the British capital, considered continental record until today.
