MATANZAS, Cuba, July 30 (ACN) Martha Yolanda Castañeda Fals, an 18-year-old Cuban diver, said that she expects to win at least one medal at the 2nd Junior Pan-American Games in Asunción, Paraguay, to be held in August.
She remarked that the best chance to climb the podium will be in the synchronized 3m springboard event.
“I’m training together with my teammate Cinthia Cortina García to try and improve on the bronze medal we won in the qualifiers, since we think that despite the high level of our rivals we can finish second at least”, she stressed.
One of Cuba’s eight ornamental divers (four of each sex) who will compete in Paraguay, Castañeda will also participate in the individual 1m and 3m springboard events, hoping to be among the finalists and then achieve a high score with a view to the fight for the medals.
“To this end I prepare myself every day, as we have been training hard for months to do better in the final phase of the dive, what most people know as entering the water. I feel I am in very good shape to get a good result”, she concluded.
