Cuba to compete at 2025 ICF Canoe and Paracanoe Sprint World Cup in Poznan

 HAVANA, Cuba, May 23 (ACN) Cuba will be present today with canoeists Yarisliedis Cirilo Dubois, Yinnoly Franchesca Lopez and Jose Ramon Pelier in the second day of the Sprint World Cup, to be held at Lake Malta in Poznan, Poland.

Pelier, first place -tenth overall- in the final B of the single sculls (C-1) at 1,000 meters of the Olympic Games of Paris 2024, will seek Friday his pass to the final A of the tournament in one of the semifinals of that modality and distance, after winning his elimination heat on Thursday, a result that places him among the favorites to discuss medals.

His semi-final opponents are canoeists from Mexico, Canada, Japan, with two, Germany, Czech Republic, Chinese Taipei and Estonia, according to the International Canoe Federation's website - canoe and kayak - www.caneicf.com.

The bronze medalist in the Parisian multisport event in the C-1 200m and world champion in Duisburg 2023, Cirilo, also participates in her debut, among the great protagonists who will fight for the medals.

Yinnoly, eighth place in the final A of the C-2 to 500 in the City of Light, but with Cirilo, will be with little chance in that specialty and distance - C-2 to 200 meters.

In the C-2 500 meters, Yinnoly finished sixth in the heats and semifinals, in that order, together with young Diorgina Castillo Duboy.

The disciples of Jose Ramon Paula, supported by the Olympic holder Serguey Torres, will try to improve the performance achieved in Szeged, where Cirilo was first -tenth overall- in the final B of the C-1 to 200 meters, Pelier finished third -twelfth overall- in the C-1 to 1,000 meters, and Yinnoly-Diorgina finished seventh -sixteenth overall- in the C-2 to 500 meters.

As in Szeged, the main purpose of the four Cubans is to achieve the optimum form to participate in the World Championship in Milan, Italy, from August 20 to 24.
