HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 16 (ACN) Come March 7, Cuban boxer Ronniel Iglesias (71 kg) will be opposite the Russian Yury Osipov in a six-round bout as part of a Champions’ Night tournament in Moscow, Russia.
The match was initially scheduled to be held on January 31 in Havana with figures such as Cuba’s two-time Olympic champion Julio Cesar La Cruz (92 kg) and Erislandy Alvarez (63,5 kg), winner in Paris 2024, but the IBA decided unexpectedly to change the venue.
It would have been La Cruz’s opportunity to defend his golden belt title in a 10-round fight against the Tajik Davlat Boltaev, third in Paris 2024, where the Cuban went medal-less.
Another downside to IBA’s decision is that it deprived the Cuban fans of the chance to enjoy the much-awaited tournament.
