Jose Mujica Wins Guantánamo-Havana Cycling Tour

Jose Mujica Wins Guantánamo-Havana Cycling TourHAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (acn) Artemisa´s José Mojica was crowned champion of Guantánamo-Havana cycling tour with time of 32: 53.32 hours, after finishing the stage 12th of 126 km between Matanzas and Havana.

Despite arriving 41st to the finish line, Mojica kept the lead and was escorted by Granma´s Yennier Lopez at 1:43 minutes and Sancti Spiritus´ Joel Solenzal (+3:10).

Santiago's Arnold Alcolea was the winner of the stage.

Precisely Alcolea also won the mountain classification with 34 units, followed by Lopez (32) and Mojica (26) respectively.
Despite winning the three intermediate sprints of the stage, Matanzas´ Yasmani Estupiñán, who achieved 25 points, could not be crowned leader of this classification, which was won by Guantanamo's Onel Santa Clara (26) and Havana's Yasmani Viamontes finished third (10).

This 12 days race has been made thanks to great effort by everyone involved: the riders, coaches, mechanics ... the participation of people, Hector Ruiz, national commissioner of cycling, told ACN.

About the return of the Cycling Tour of Cuba, international for next year, Ruiz reaffirmed that all depends on the resources and economic opportunities, but he confessed that the whole country and the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation (INDER by its Spanish acronym) are committed to its execution.

The award ceremony was chaired by Antonio Becali, INDER president, and other officials of that entity and members of the Cuban Cycling Federation, moment at which Holguin´s Leopoldo Díaz Domínguez was selected as the best referee of the competition.
