HAVANA, Cuba, Feb 23 (acn) Lisandra Guerra won Cuba's only medal at the World Track Cycling Championships in Paris when finishing third in the keirin event.
Guerra, like in the edition of Minsk 2013 (Belarus), won the bronze medal in her last competitive event after ending ninth in the women's 500m time trial and eighteenth in the individual sprint, according to the official website of the contest.
She was only surpassed by Australia's Anna Meares, whom with this result earned a medal of each color, and Dutch Shanne Braspennincx was the silver medalist.
Meanwhile, the also Cuban Marlies Mejias established herself as one of the leading runners of omnium despite not having climbed the awards podium by finishing fifth with 149 units.
The golden medal went to Australian Annette Edmondson with 192 points, while Britain's Laura Trott (176) and the Dutch Kirsten Wild (175) finished second and third in that order.
Cuba, with only six female representatives, ranked 16th in the standings , which was topped by the local nation with five gold and two bronze medals , consecutively followed by Australia (4-4-3) and Germany (3-1-3).
