Wrestler Lopez and Judoka Ortiz Best Cuban Athletes in 2014

HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 12 (acn) The wrestler Mijaín Lopez, 130 kilos, and judoka Idalis Ortiz (+78) were elected as the most outstanding Cuban athletes in 2014, by the titles won at the world championships and the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz.

This year López increased to five his world crowns, to which we must add two Olympic ones, while Ortiz reached her second golden medal on the planet, in addition to be Olympic monarch, performance that places her on top of the world rankings of her division.
After the sum of the votes by the specialists from the National Institute of Sports, Physical Education and Recreation and the press, it was also announced that boxing through its squad, Cuba Domadores, headed the individual sport category, while baseball reigned as best team sport.
The basketball and baseball player Yamara Amargo and Yulieski Gourriel were chosen as the most outstanding athletes in team sports , and baseball player Vladimir Gutiérrez was the rookie of the year.
The top 10 list included Yarisley Silva (athletics), Angel Fournier (rowing), Marlies Mejias (cycling), Erislandy Savon (boxing), Julio Cesar la Cruz (boxing), Reinieris Salas (free-style wrestling), Lisandra Guerra ( cycling), Liban López (free-style wrestling), José Armenteros ( judo) and Manrique Larduet (gymnastics).
Within youth category, the highlights were Yordan Alain Hernandez (boxing) and Gilda Casanova (athletics), accompanied by Yorgelis Rodríguez, Sahily Diago, Liadagmis Rodriguez and Lazaro Martinez, all of athletics.
The list is completed with Ivan Silva (judo), Alain Limonta and Javier Ibañez (boxing), Osmany Uriarte (volleyball), Frank Manuel Lopez (soccer) and Daniela Darriba (Basque pelota).
In the meeting there were also recognitions to all medalists in Veracruz, especially the multi-champions, as well as the world medalists.
The multi-medalist Yesenia Ferrera, artistic gymnastics, and at youth level, also received a recognition by her brilliant performance in Veracruz.
