HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 11 (acn) Cuba's best athletes in 2014 will be announced today, in a year of several world championships in various sports and the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz.
In the multidisciplinary competition of the Mexican city, Cubans met their target of finishing first by countries with 123 gold, 66 silver and 65 bronze medals, to retake the top achieved in Cartagena de Indias 2006 after the absence in Mayaguez 2010.
The list of highlights includes the wrestler Mijail Lopez ( 130 kilograms) and the judoka Idalis Ortiz (+78 kilos), who were without doubts the most outstanding athletes of the Caribbean island in individual sports ( men's and women's respectively).
