HAVANA, Cuba, Dec 4 (acn) Lázaro Bruzón, Yuniesky Quesada and Isam Ortiz will be among Cubans attending today the chess tournament ITT Millonario de Navidad, in the Colombian city of Bogotá.
Bruzón with 2 668 ELO points is the top seed within a roster of 82 players, including other known players of America as Peruvian Julio Granda (2654) and American Varuzhan Akobyan (2637).
Yuniesky (2643) ranks fourth and the Cuban monarch Ortiz (2623) appears sixth among those announced in the specialized site www.chess.results.com.
Paraguayan Axel Bachman (2628), Polish Bartlomej Macieja (2621) and Peruvian Emilio Córdova (2616) are other registered for the contest which until its previous version was known as JAHV Mac Gregor and Bruzón is among its previous winners.
Yuri González (2560), Yusnel Bacallao (2543), Camilo Gómez (2530), Carlos Hevia (2511) and Aramis Alvarez (2482) will also compete for Cuba.
The event was convened to nine rounds by the Swiss system and will have four days of doubleheaders to complete all the matches on December 8th.
In addition, a Blitz tournament (five minutes matches) will be held next Sunday in which almost all players included in the classic event must compete.
