Cuban Hammer Thrower Moreno: I Didn't Go for the Record, But...XALAPA, Mexico, Nov 25 (acn) Cuban Yipsi Moreno showed herself very happy after winning with record for the competition the women´s hammer event in the athletics of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games at Heriberto Jara stadium where she threw the implement of her long and fruitful career.

Moreno said she was surprised by her fifth attempt of 71.35 meters, valid to leave behind her own Central Caribbean record of 70.22 meters, achieved on the edition of Cartagena de Indias 2006.
I'm glad because I could not really train as usual, I spent much of the time studying to get my Masters degree, she recalled.
She believes the future of Cuban women's hammer is assured and an example of this is the performance of her teammate, Yurisleydis Ford, who finished second with 69.62 meters, coincidentally in the fifth attempt.
Cuba also reached two gold and one bronze medals yesterday, with special highlight for Yarisley Silva, who imposed her status as women's world indoor high jump champion, by achieving 4.60 meters, new record for the Games.
The other crown was reached in the men's discus by Jorge Fernandez, who topped the competition with 63.17 meters, ahead of Colombian Alexander Ortega (60.69 meters) and Mexican Mario Cota (58.21), respectively.
