HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 25 (acn) Cuban athletes will have today several medals options in the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games, where Mexicans lead the standings by just one more gold medal than Cuba.
The Cuban presence will be wider in the athletics, with finals scheduled in women's long jump, men's shot put, men's 800 meters, women's 100 meters, along with the conclusion of men's decathlon.
Regarding boxing four Cuban athletes will fight for their ticket to the final: Arlen Lopez (75 kg) will face Raul Sanchez from the Dominican Republic; and Erislandy Savon (91) will be in the ring with Colombian Deivis Julio.
Meanwhile the London 2012 Olympic champion Robeisy Ramírez (56) and Yasnier Toledo (64) will be the opponents of local box ers Sergio Chirino and Raul Curiel, respectively.
In addition, it will also start the Greco-Roman Wrestling with activity in the divisions of 59, 66, 75, 85 and 98 kilos.
In men's handball, Cuba will play in semi-final against Puerto Rico; while the men's basketball team debuts against Jamaica in Group A, and the squads of water polo, in both sexes, shall rival Puerto Ricans.
Also in women's softball the Cuban team will rival Colombia; while men's volleyball will make their debut against Bahamas and the rowers will try to start their medals harvest in Mandinga Lagoon.
