HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 21 (acn) Cuba added a good harvest of 10 titles, including five in the judo competition, at the sixth day of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games, based in Veracruz, Mexico.
The day was perfect for Cuban women judokas who won three scepters through Dayaris Mestre in the 44 kilograms division, Celia María Laborde (48), and the double Olympic silver medalist in Beijing 2008 and London 2012, Yanet Bermoy (52).
Meanwhile, Leonardo Merino (55) and Janier Peña (60) contributed with two crowns in the men's judo event.
Also on Thursday, Eglys Cruz earned her second golden medal in shooting, after winning the final of the 50 meters rifle three positions by totaling 452.5 points, and was escorted by Venezuelan Diliana Mendez (447.7) and the also Cuban Dianelys Perez (435.7).
Artistic gymnastics also increased its harvest with a scepter and three silver medals in the event finals.
Yesenia Ferrera totaled 14,887 points in the women's vault to top this event, escorted by the also Cuban Dobelis Torres (14,425) and Nicolle Vasquez (14,300) from Puerto Rico.
Among men, Manrique Larduet accumulated 15,350 units in floor exercises, event in which Guatemalan Jorge Vega (15,450) was the champion; while Puerto Rican Luis Rivera won the bronze medal.
Larduet also finished second in the rings with score of 15,325 points, surpassed only by Puerto Rican Tommy Ramos (15,350).
In track cycling, Lisandra Guerra conquered her third title by winning the women's sprint; while Yudelmis Dominguez finished second in the women's points race .
In addition, Andy Pereira won the table tennis men's singles, Cuban first crown of this discipline in Veracruz; and in swimming, Hanser Garcia finished third in the men's 50 meters freestyle.
In yesterday's other results, the women's foil team, made up by Angela Winter, Daylen Moreno and Elizabeth Hidalgo, achieved the third seat with an ample win of 45 - 31 over Puerto Rico; while the team recurve, in either sex, won bronze medals.
Related to team sports, Cuban women's handball beat in the final to Puerto Rico by the score of 32-18; in basketball, the Caribbean women defeated 98-40 Jamaica and in the men's field hockey, Cuba beat 6-1 the Dominican Republic.
The success 6-3 also over the Dominicans in baseball semifinals also provided great joy to the Cuban delegation.
Finally, men softball players lost their unbeaten status against Venezuela (1-2) and women volleyball athletes beat the local squad earning thus the bronze medal .
