Cuban Swimmer Garcia Wins Bronze in Veracruz, Not Satisfied

Cuban Swimmer Garcia Wins Bronze in Veracruz, Not SatisfiedVERACRUZ, Mexico, Nov 21 (acn) Cuba's Hanser Garcia won the bronze medal in the men's 50 meters freestyle of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games.

In the mixed zone of the Aquatic Complex, Garcia said his thoughts were on top of the podium, but things did not go well and finished third with time of 22.69 seconds, behind Trinidadian George Bovell (22.30) and Surinamese Renzo Tjon (22.62), the first one set a new record for the Games.

This was Garcia's second medal in this competition as he previously won the 100m freestyle event.

The joy of course would have been greater if winning the two gold medals but I am equally happy if taking into account all the problems I faced during training, mainly of health, Garcia noted.

The other Cuban swimmer that competed yesterday was Armando Barrera (56.54), who also won a bronze medal at the men's 100 meters backstroke by escorting Colombian Omar Andres Pinzon (55.48) and Venezuelan Albert Subirats (55.68), in that order.

I am unhappy with my previous results. Luckily I could win a bronze medal on Thursday, performance that somewhat relieves the situation in which I find myself, despite the careful attention of the technical staff, athletes and family, from Havana, Barrera stated.
