VERACRUZ, Mexico, Nov 13 (acn) Cuba's flag will be hoisted today at the Convention Centre forecourt of this Mexican city, headquarters of the 22nd Central American and Caribbean Games to be held from tomorrow until November 30 in four other secondary venues of that country.
According to sources from the organizing committee of the multi-sport event, plus the Cuban national flag, those of Colombia, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Cuba, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Mexico will also be hoisted today.
On Wednesday, similar events were held with the delegations from Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Bahamas, Aruba, Venezuela, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and Guatemala.
Cuba attends this edition of the Games in order to regain the first place by countries achieved in Cartagena 2006, and holds the first position by nations since Panama City 1970, regardless San Salvador 2002 and Mayaguez 2010, contests in which it was not present due to difficulties to ensure the safety of its delegations.
The Cuban athletes will start competing on November 15 and they expect winning their first medals in the tournament of canoeing, based in Tuxpan, where their first chance will be through Jorge Garcia, in 1000 meters kayak (K-1).
The delegation of the largest Caribbean island is made up by 543 athletes, who will compete in 34 sport disciplines, and will have their main rival in Mexico, winner in San Salvador and Mayaguez.
